72 hours

Day 3

I read that irritability, depression, lack of concentration, restlessness, boredom, anger, aggression and general discomfort are symptoms of quitting smoking. The good news is I probably won’t notice any symptoms. Thank god for the angry teenager in me that is still alive and well.

Kidding aside, anger apparently peaks for the average quitter at about 72 hours (day 3).

Yesterday, listening to Vancouver radio I had many thoughts. Admittedly for many of the years spent living in Vancouver I listened to 99.3 The Fox. They are still playing our Vancouver boy Matt Good. I haven’t heard his voice since leaving Vancouver 6 years ago. He was an annoying asshole then and I am sure he still is today. His latest album titled ‘Vancouver’ speaks directly to the only audience who knows who he is … and not for his music but because he is an annoying asshole.

Back in the day, I Mother Earth was a fantastic band with a shit singer ‘Edwin.’ In 1997 IME dropped Edwin. At the time IME admitted Edwin had no creative control in terms of the music and it was their drummer writing all the lyrics. Soon after 99.3 The Fox picked no talent Edwin up and are still carrying him. He needs to be dropped again hard enough so that he can’t get up.

Biff Naked.... I'm not going to touch this one.

What’s up with the "Moroccan roll" of The Tea Party? I once ran into the lead vocalist/guitarist Jeff Martin in the washroom of the Morrissey Pub on Granville Street. Just for the record he also plays the banjo, mandolin, dumbek, theremin, aquaggaswack, bazantar, bowafridgeaphone, bikelophone, bandura, beolian wind harp, boning…. to name a few. I told him that for a guy who plays 200+ instruments he sure writes shitty songs. He didn’t seem too impressed with me but asked that I check out a Tea Party show in Montreal. I never did. The Tea Party appeared at every Thunderbird Stadium event I attended in my 20's.

Jeff Martin playing the bazantar or is it the aquaggaswack?

If you think I have been too hard on The Fox I will leave you with this. The Fox played a fundamental role in the early success of our Canadian 'rockers' Nickleback. Our Albertan boys with the help of the Fox moved out west to get their start. Today Nickleback is the 2nd best selling foreign act in the US behind the Beatles. That's right the Beatles! 'This is how You Remind Me' Mr. Fox that you SUCK!

Kidding aside, anger apparently peaks for the average quitter at about 72 hours (day 3).

  1. Reading this post makes me feel like I got in a time machine, and went back 11 or so years. Once arrived in 1998, I am proceeded to get loaded off of vodka and cranberry juice and sit in the back of a 1981 Chevy Camper Van. Once in said van a conversation revolving around this blog post ensued.
As the people of Vancouver, we should be ashamed of crapping out the disfigured man child that is Nickleback.

  2. Vodka and cranberry juice in the back of a 1981 Chevy Camper Van!?! Sound trashy!

I beleieve that as individuals we should only be aloted 5 opinions each. 2 of mine revolve around radio friendly music. 1 as Jeff describes so elequently that we as Vancouverites are partly responsible for the success of Nickelback and that the artistic merit found on Jay-Z's Black album was grossely understated by critics.
